This role in summary:

At Whirlpool we are looking for a Junior Project Engineer for our Built-In Cooking platform team.
Working with us you will be responsible for the mechanical structures, aesthetics and thermal subsystems of our Built-In Ovens, Microwaves, and Cooktops. 
You will work with global cross-functional teams during various phases of projects like concept, design and product ones.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • New Product Development projects for the Built-in Cooking business with a focus on structural and aesthetics components and physics understanding (structural load, thermodynamics, air flow)
  • Drive projects simultaneously to implementation using the project management tools by closely working with design, product approval, manufacturing and procurement teams.
  • Concept development, design creation, concept evaluation & selection, verification & validation
  • Fine-tuning of concepts (material selection, Design for Safety/Manufacturing/Assembly)
  • Develop and capture knowledge required to deliver subsystem level excellence
  • Understanding and reviewing simulation reports (structural and thermal) and incorporating recommendations into design.
  • Work with procurement and suppliers to coordinate the development of the tools 
  • Release the parts and assemblies within the PLM (Product Life Cycle Management) tool.
  • Support intellectual property creation: initiating and following-up on patent analysis and identifying new ideas for patents
  • Support roadmaps and strategy plans around specific product modules and attributes 

Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor/Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 1+ years of experience in the same or very similar role
  • Knowledge in component/product development with 3D CAD modeling (Creo/Parametric preferred)
  • Good communication skills in written and spoken English

Preferred requirements:

  • Drawing experience and GD&T (Geometry Dimensioning & Tolerancing) application (tolerance definition and analysis)
  • Knowledge of DFMEA, Requirements management
  • Good planning, communication and concept development skills
  • Ability to work under time pressure
  • Resilience, multidisciplinary approach
  • Knowledge in injection molding and sheet metal forming processes
  • Knowledge in simulation analysis (Finite Element Analysis)
