Legal Counsel (Senior Manager) Northern Europe Cluster

  • This position will act as lead counsel for the Whirlpool Northern Europe Cluster (includes DACH, Benelux and Nordic markets), working closely with the cluster senior management advising on a variety of general commercial and corporate matters across national, community and international law, including competition law, commercial law, distribution, marketing and advertising, privacy and other compliance matters.  This position will also work closely with other members of the legal team on strategic regional and global initiatives. This is a dynamic and fast paced role with opportunity to help drive business results and product leadership while protecting the company against legal and regulatory risks, as well as identifying and implementing new process, resources and training to help drive results and minimize risk and cost.   

  • Advise on cluster, regional and global legal and business strategies to help the Company achieve strong business results while mitigating risks appropriately and with the ability to drive efficiency and implement key processes across legal and business areas.   


Key Activities and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a strategic, legal and compliance advisor to the VP Northern Europe Cluster and other members of the senior management team to drive results and protect the Company. 

  • Draft and negotiate a variety of commercial and distribution agreements. 

  • Advise on sales, distribution, marketing, ecommerce, privacy, and product related matters.  

  • Identify, develop and implement legal training, business resources, and process to drive efficient and effective legal support. 

  • Assisting in the development, execution and administration of compliance policies and training. Ensure strong focus on antitrust issues (e.g., horizontal & vertical price issues) and other critical/emerging compliance topics (e.g., privacy, anti-corruption, anti-money laundering, sanctions,etc.).

  • Manage legal budget and outside counsel.

  • Work effectively with business leaders, including the ability to develop strong internal relationships across various levels of organization to drive results, culture of integrity and values-driven performance and give advice on specific legal matters.  

  • Actively contribute to global legal projects as needed



Competencies/ Education Requirements/Knowledge, Skills, Abilities 

  • Global business is conducted in English; however fluency in German is mandatory, other European languages are plus (Polish, in particular).

  • Law degree and bar certification from Germany.

  • 10-12  years of relevant legal experience (e.g., marketing law, sales & distribution law, ecommerce, antitrust & compliance, contracts & transactions, etc.). International or multi-country in-house legal experience is desired. 

  • Demonstrated leadership skills including strong character & integrity values, professionalism, and confidence.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral) with executives, business clients, and legal staff.  

  • Strong analytical, organization and management skills, including change management skills to optimize legal support and resources. 

  • Ability to work effectively with others and with an appreciation of cultural diversity.

  • Law firm training at a respected practice and qualified to practice law in Europe (Germany) preferred.

  • Possess keen intellect, and credibility so as to interact effectively and influence management at all levels.

  • Genuine desire to work in an international setting with high level enthusiasm for the diversity of work.
