This role in summary
Whirlpool is currently searching for a Senior Manager to lead our Model-based System Engineering (MBSE) Strategy within the Product Development Excellence team in St. Joseph, MI. Our Mission is to establish a predictable and scalable architecture system to deliver sustainable product leadership by elevating MBSE as a standard practice at Whirlpool, integrated with the Digital Thread. The Senior Manager, MBSE will prioritize which Digital Capability our organization will use to develop, create strategy and implement by supporting the execution of all technical processes related to System Engineering across all appliance platforms (refrigeration, laundry, cooking, dishwasher, KAD), to support a winning global product plan using Project Management experience to transform complex organizations by developing organizational capabilities and driving change.


Your responsibilities will include 

  • Lead change management activities in order to influence a large engineering organization in transitioning from a traditional product development execution strategy into a Systems Engineering based product development strategy by working with the key architecture development team members (e.g. Appliance Platform System Architect, Subsystem SMEs, V&V strategist)
  • Support all .14 Technical processes related to System Engineering according to INCOSE/ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288: Business or mission analysis, Stakeholder needs and requirements definition, System requirements definition, Architecture definition, Design definition, System analysis, Implementation, Integration, Verification, Transition, Validation, Operation, Maintenance and Disposal
  • Complex Organizational Change (Change Management): demonstrated ability to lead in an operationally complex, marketing-driven organization. Proven track record ensuring cultural/change management: to coordinate future work, to reinforce the why, clarify requirements, report on maturity of current projects and track metrics/KPIs to drive adoption
  • Translate product leadership strategy/regional requirements to attribute targets by prioritizing - product development or advanced development projects in order to guarantee correlation between consumer satisfaction and measures of performance (MOPs/MOEs/VoE) 
  • Ensure proper prioritization and use of Conceptual Architecture Model
  • Drive the proper prioritization of System Performance Modeling
  • Accountable to Identify and govern module interfaces, ensuring the proper parametric Architecture Layouts and Module Envelopes, Configurable CAD Assemblies, Configurable EBOMs to the architecture roadmap
  • Build exceptional technical talent and capability, in particular embed and foster a system mindset with all architecture and subsystem development team members


Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • 10+ years Engineering & Technical Design Experience
  • 5+ years System Engineering Experience


Preferred skills and experiences

  • Master’s Degree in System Engineering
  • INCOSE CSEP or ESEP Certification
  • Appliance, automotive, defense or aeronautics product design
  • 20+ years Engineering & Technical Design Experience
  • Design for Safety, Design for Manufacturability, Quality Management (APQP)
  • Lean & Design for 6-Sigma (DMAIC, SIPOC, PDSA, COV/DOE)
  • Strategy Development
  • People Leadership
  • Driving Transformation / Track Record of Growth (Performance)
  • PLM (product lifecycle management) Systems: PTC Windchill, PTC Modeler, IBM Rational (DNG/RQM), SAP, PLanisware PPM
  • Continuous Improvement; OPEX: BB 
  • Agile/Scrum (Scrum Master or PO Certification)
