POSITION PURPOSE/ RESPONSIBILITIES
To champion consumer safety for all assigned platform(s) / architectures(s) globally by indentifying and driving proactive safety improvements to products and driving overall compliance to Corporate Policy for product safety.

 

Support the disciplined use of the Whirlpool Corporate Product Safety System within the product development/WPD framework.  Drive for consistency in approach and results for hazard identification, evaluation and issue closure. Enable the product safety design process through active and visible participation in Safety Audits /Safety Reviews, and routine consultation with GPO and other parts of the organization.

 

Support proper closure of PHM risk assessments for potential hazards identified during product development and in response to field allegations received from field service, consumer care, claims and/or litigation actions or other sources
 
Provide leadership across functional boundaries to effectively manage product defense actions and dispute resolution. Interface with CxC, Early Alert and GPO organizations to identify and internally escalate issues as appropriate. Manage product inspection, expert witness / deposition, and claims & litigation support efforts directly or through other managed resources.

 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • 15 years product design and/or approval experience 
  • BSME or BSEE (other technical engineering degrees considered).  MSME or MSEE Preferred.
  • OpEx BlackBelt Certification preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks/projects/priorities on an independent basis.
  • Working knowledge of product development process 
  • Working knowledge of product safety process 
  • Use hand tools and photographic equipment to enable product safety inspections and dispute resolution. 
  • Ability to move (push/pull) products and tools weighing up to 200 lbs. 
  • Ability to drive car/travel up to 6 hours to other Whirlpool or supplier operations. 
  • Ability to travel globally to other Whirlpool operations. 
  • Ability to communicate using written documents, telephone, and oral presentations to individuals and groups.

PREFERRED/SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to influence others at all levels of the organization.
  • Work well in highly stressful situations. 
  • Be able to strongly defend a minority position. 
  • Ability to lead or advise key programs. 
  • Adaptable to changing technical environment
  • Knowledge of product safety and loss issues on multiple products 
  • Specialist/consultant with a comprehensive knowledge of the product safety process. 
  • Ability to analyze, assimilate, and resolve product safety issues (root cause/prediction)
  • Skilled in databases, Excel, ReliaSoft, etc use (analytics, charting/graphing, Weibull)
  • Stay abreast of fire cause and origin, codes and standards, and fire safety tools and techniques. 
  • Certified Fire Investigator (or will take training)
