This Role in Summary


Whirlpool is currently looking for a qualified candidate for our Product Development Engineer, role to join our Dishwasher team in Saint Joseph, Mi. In this role  you will be responsible for creating, maintaining and releasing, setting files and algorithms for the Platform.


Day to Day


This position would report to the Settings File and Algorithm Leader within the Dishwasher Team and would be for an individual contributor role.  The individual would routinely work with the Architect, System Integrators, Subsystem Teams, Manufacturing and Service to manage the settings files and algorithms for new Architecture, Major Model Lines, and Innovation Projects.  The position would also work closely with the System Integration Leaders to support legacy architectures. Each day will offer a broad range of opportunities to connect with different portions of the Dish team and will support a fast paced, team oriented, work environment.  



Your Responsibilities Will Include 


  • Manage setting files in database
  • Manage Settings Files and Algorithms within the Dish Platform to support project execution needs, including development releases for cycle development and software testing
  • Review settings file test plan(s) with Product Approval and submit lab request(s) for testing
  • Release settings files in PLM (Windchill) and ensure Bills of Material are correct, including PPAP completion
  • Report defects found in development testing and support problem resolution.
  • Work with the Architecture and Planning teams as needed to support current production and maintenance of business activities
  • Work with owners of setting file tables to get all components completed and released according to schedule.
  • Work with the Manufacturing team to support pre-production builds and End of Line processes
  • Work with the Service team to support new product training.  Review service manuals and literature for accuracy, where applicable
  • Support go-and-see events, including Consumer home visits, where applicable.
  • Find opportunities to continuously improve the tools and processes to deliver the visibility and insight required to drive actionable results
  • Develop new Dishwasher Cycle Subroutines and Algorithms for optimum performance and quality
  • Continually improve Cycle Subroutines and Algorithms 
  • Utilize model based systems engineering approach to connect and integrate Hardware, Firmware and Software into product architecture BOM and SysMl models.
  • Ability to travel internationally, up to 10%


Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science
  • 2 year(s)  experience in product design that includes production release
  • 2 year(s)  experience with product development tools such as DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), A3 (Problem Solving), and Stage Gate Development Process

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechatronics
  • Structured problem-solving skills, Black Belt/Green Belt/Shainin trained
  • System design and integration experience
  • Control theory and control systems experience
  • Software/hardware verification and validation testing
  • Consumer products/home appliances product development
  • Configuration management experience
  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management,(PLM/), Product Data Management,(PDM)
  •  system (eg Windchill)
  • Google office suite (eg Hangouts/Calendar/Gmail/Docs/Sheets/Slides)
  • Very strong verbal and written communication skills with fluency in English
  • Leadership and ‌project‌ ‌management‌
  • Outstanding people skills, ability to interact as a team player in a diverse/global team
  • Self-drive and motivated
