Assembly or Controls Engineer Lead- Central Manufacturing Engineering

Location: Apodaca Nuevo Leon  and Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila, Mx

Day to Day (what a typical day or week look like in this role)

Whirlpool is looking for an experienced people leader with a strong background in manufacturing operations and associated process technologies.  As part of Central Manufacturing Engineering, the successful candidate will work closely with the NAR manufacturing locations, GPO Platform organization, and Advanced Manufacturing.  Main accountabilities will be to define, coordinate and manage process technology assets from concurrent development, acquisition through to execution and eventual handoff to operations.  The expectation and measure will be successful manufacturability and flawless delivery of winning new products to the marketplace.  This will cover coveted brands such as Whirlpool, Amana, Estate, KitchenAid, and Maytag. 

The successful candidate will work with our Global Platform teams and Advanced Manufacturing team to be at the forefront of developing process technologies by providing manufacturing capabilities. This includes establishing the early capital budget estimates and manufacturing engineering resource requirements. This individual will manage a group of experienced Engineers who will be accountable to acquire and manage the associated capital assets from concurrent development through to formal production handoff at the selected manufacturing locations.


 As the CME Lead, you will be accountable for:

Supporting new product integration by providing manufacturing expertise to each of the key functions.

  • Lead the definition, development and execution of capital purchases for NAR operations in support of product launch and major FMP transitions.

  • Application of World Class Manufacturing concepts, approaches and tools to ensure embedment into the production system for Operations  and alignment with Manufacturing Strategy.

  • Process technology leadership into factory master plans for site operations.  This includes capital analysis and estimates as well transition planning to support business case development.

  • Work closely with Industrial Digital Transformation (Idx) lead for the region to ensure product launches and major factory transformations are advancing the Idx migration.  

  • Working closely with the Global Platform organization and in particular the Process Leads to concurrently develop process technologies to support new product launch.

  • Lead a team of process technology experts to drive standard acquisition and execution processes.

  • Improving speed and value in which we deliver assets to the NAR Operations. 

  • Oversee staffing and resource allocation in support of major capital asset purchases to support Platform product launch plans and major FMP transitions.

  • Leadership, development, and appraising individual performance of your team members.

  • Ensuring that new manufacturing processes are flexible in design to accommodate long range new product cadence plans with the intent of minimizing future capital requirements.

  • Working closely with the Global Advanced Manufacturing Engineering department to ensure that new process technologies are in compliance with the established Global Bill of Processes.

  • Deliver effective presentations and reporting on performance to the established key performance metrics.




What You Need To Succeed

  • 8+ years of operations experience within a high volume manufacturing operation desired.

  • Excellent project management skills.

  • Knowledge of appliance fabrication, tooling, controls logic and related manufacturing processes such as complex fabrication lines/cells that contain forming, piercing, bending, welding, adhesives, robotics, material handling, etc.

  • Experience in new product introductions, including the direct planning and acquisition of the associated capital.

  • 2-4 years experience with Solidworks, Autodesk Inventor or Creo.

  • Experience in running multiple scenario discrete event simulations.

  • Excellent Operations process development and implementation experience

  • Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing concepts.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and team building skills with the ability to work in a team environment.

  • Hands on experience working in a heavily automated production environment is desired.

  • Must be willing to travel 10-30% of the time with some occasional travel to Asia/India, Europe, and Latin America in addition to U.S. locations.

  • Must have a demonstrated history of gathering input from key stakeholders and gaining their buy-in.

  • Must have a demonstrated history of success working in a matrix managed environment.

  • Must have demonstrated success in translating technical concepts to commonly used business language.

  • Must be able to translate strategy to business objectives and individual objectives in an aligned manner.

  • Must have strong communication skills in both English and Spanish.
