Currently, we are seeking qualified candidates for a Test Engineer opening at our Ottawa and Findlay manufacturing site to join our global manufacturing quality organization.

 

Function Overview:

The Test Engineer will serve as the local Subject-Matter Expert in the plant for implementing performance-related test systems to ensure the manufacturing of high quality electronic appliances. This position will require a self-motivated individual to support both strategic and operational needs in a fast paced appliance manufacturing facility. This includes full support of test / measurement and programming techniques for the testing systems used in the appliance assembly process.  

 

In addition, you will troubleshoot, maintain and develop test / programming solutions for various products with electronic appliance control systems. The Test Engineer is responsible for maintaining a strong communication link between the Plant, Regional Quality Teams, Platform Development teams and Electronics Development teams and Test Equipment suppliers. Test development will include standardization between multiple sites to ensure test consistency.

 

Responsibilities:

 

In this position, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Become the subject matter expert in the plant for the testing and validation of electronically controlled appliances.
  • Identify emerging issues related to product capability and test coverage with respect to the test systems. Take appropriate action for containment and drive issues back to permanent resolution.
  • Develop & implement global testing roadmaps using the standardized software & hardware architecture
  • Help define quality assurance and reliability of appliances through inspection and testing techniques.
  • Support the goal of 100% test coverage using Whirlpool Techniques such as the House of Quality, Critical Parameter Management, Continuous Improvement and others.
  • Evaluate measurement data, run statistical analysis and define both statistical limits and process parameters.
  • Generate reports on findings and create key learning(s) to be shared with other technical experts.
  • Write test equipment specifications, have excellent writing skills.
  • Work closely with designers, manufacturing and quality control to deliver cost effective test solutions.
  • Drive to standardized testing, develop Key Process Indicators and output monitors to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Identify maintenance requirements for production test equipment and train maintenance technicians.
  • Develop troubleshooting guides and train failure analysis technicians on the manufacturing line.


 

Basic Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering   
  • 1+ years of manufacturing testing experience

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Understanding basic appliance & Electronic Testing Systems
  • Basic knowledge of Lean Manufacturing Methods, Statistical Process Control (SPC) and advanced problem solving tools in a manufacturing environment. 
  • Project management experience leading or as a team member for Product or Process development & characterization projects. 
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of SPC, APQP tools (Process Flow Diagram, PFMEA, Process Control Plan) 
  • 6-Sigma experience and/or various tools such as Design of Experiments, MSA, Six Sigma training preferred.
  • Ability to learn Whirlpool’s proprietary protocols for communication and development tools to help interface test solutions
  • Self motivated, self starting individual that can lead projects, excellent communicator.
  • Ability to develop and validate product functional test systems and software for automated test scripting and data acquisition. This will require test system implementation from concept to final test solution.
  • A basic understanding of electronic devices, PLC’s and circuitry including hands-on test platform development is preferred. 
  • Experience leading Capital Procurement projects for equipment is preferred.
  • Demonstrated decision making skills and Project Execution.
  • In-depth computer skills, working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, with experience using office applications found in Google G Suite a plus.
  • Experience with programming languages like LabView and Visual Basic or C sharp is a plus.
