This role in summary

The Site Engineer leads and/or gives support to product engineering changes in new product development, cost reduction projects, quality improvement, regulatory planning with the government, and daily support of the facility in order to cover production issues or urgencies. The role is located in Ottawa, Ohio, and it is part of the Global Engineering Organization for product development, which aims to support people development and product leadership development across the organization. and will join a team of 12 people responsible for cost reduction and quality improvement programs for existing products sold in the North America Region (NAR) market. Whirlpool employs approximately 24,000 people, has a sales presence in 35 markets and 15 manufacturing and technology research centers in 8 countries. 

 

Your responsibilities will include

  • Support product cost and quality activities through execution
  • Safe and reliable product launches. De-risked by setting the right requirements and adequate product testing
  • Identify and capture efficiency opportunities through product design improvements
  • Ensure factory productivity by resolving factory issues associated with product design in alignment with subsystem teams
  • Delivery of BOMs, drawing updates on POs and manual version/language control
  • Lead basic project design objectives and the selection of design approaches. Coordinate and execute design, documentation, and transition to production activities related to new product design and development. 
  • Develop design concepts from verbal, written, or physical descriptions and/or specifications while applying Design for Manufacture and Design for Assembly concepts.  
  • Prepare engineering notices and structure bills of material for assemblies
  • Create/Manage, compiling, releasing the product configuration and cost for bills of material for engineering releases (EBOMs) and manufacturing releases (MBOMs)
  • Track all specification releases, i.e. CNs, and ensure all parts and drawing numbers are updated
  • Provides final check of change notices to verify change is documented accurately and written in compliance with applicable standards.
  • Responsible for design/cost/quality/time trade-offs and issues within the project/product plan guardrails  
  • Proactively works with the product quality organizations to ensure that performance and reliability requirements protect us versus known failure modes.
  • Maintenance of business associated with factory productivity opportunities. Partnering with subsystem, cost & quality, and manufacturing teams to identify design, manufacturing process, and assembly improvements that will drive cost out and improve quality.

 

Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • 5 + years of Project Management or related work experience
  • Experience communicating with, and working in cross-functional teams delivering functionality and support domestically and globally

 

Preferred skills and experiences

  • Proficient English
  • Problem-solving 
  • Proficiency in manufacturing process technology acumen, especially within platform family
  • Proficiency in FMEA, PFMEA, and Opex tools
  • Good Communication skills to different audiences (engineering, manufacturing, and line employees)
  • Multi-tasking
