Job mission

Currently, we are seeking a Junior Category UX Designer opening to join our Global Consumer Design organization. 
At Whirlpool we believe in having people as our central focus, both our users and our employees. As a team member, you will be crafting experiences that will make the lives of millions of consumers around the globe a whole lot easier and delightful right in their homes!
You will have the freedom to explore sound, light, graphics, written and spoken language, motion, sensors, and remote capabilities to craft a symphony for a solution that you can validate with our real consumers.

A portfolio highlighting multiple projects and your direct contributions will be needed to be considered for the role.


Your task in the role will include

  • Understand our consumers’ needs, behaviors and abilities and be an advocate for them throughout product development.
  • Plan and conduct usability and research activities to ensure that user-centered design principles and methods impact our wide range of consumer products, providing input and actionable recommendations to strategic partners such as Industrial Designers, Product Developers, Engineers, and Marketers.
  • Create innovative user interaction concepts for our home appliance products and services that stand out in the marketplace. Communicate the same through storyboarding and storytelling.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional global stakeholders to understand requirements and co-create thoughtful solutions.
  • Develop and conduct in-home research to gather insights by observing the user in their home environment.
  • Plan and execute heuristic evaluations with users or experts to evaluate potential issues in the design and propose how to fix them.
  • Collaborate with the Strategy Team to create and maintain now-near-far term roadmaps for user experience design and technology application.
  • Communicate the user experience at various stages of the design process with wireframes, flow diagrams, storyboards, mockups, and/or high fidelity prototypes.
  • Document the specifications utilized by engineers to execute your design.
  • Co-Create compelling, inspiring, and unique digital designs for Whirlpool connected home appliances and services.
  • Stay on top of the latest trends for product innovation by analysing the competitive landscape and the adjacent industries


Background and experiences

  • Minimum requirements
    • You will hold at least a Masters Degree in Experimental Psychology, Human Factors, Ergonomics, Human-Computer Interaction or a closely related behavioural science discipline
    • Understanding of the human-centered design process.
    • You will have 1-3  years of industry experience as a hands-on Human Factors or Usability practitioner
  • Preferred skills and experiences
    • Previous industry experience. 
    • You will have a research background, with experience in experimental design, data analysis, and results interpretation;
    • You will have experience of taking ownership of projects, and will be able to produce work of a high standard without close supervision;
    • Knowledge of design thinking methodologies and application of those
    • Ability to design seamlessly between the physical and digital experiences.
    • Excellent communication skills written and verbal in both Italian and English
    • Experience collaborating with a cross-functional international team throughout the design process. 
    • Skills in communicating and influencing product design strategy.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and familiarity with technical constraints and limitations as they apply to designing for multiple platforms and modalities.
