FUNCTION OVERVIEW:

Based in Benton Harbor, MI with the flexibility to split time in our Chicago, IL office. The Solution Architect in Global Information Systems (GIS Global Product Organization (GPO) will lean on their deep technology expertise to deliver best in class solutions to support business goals and evolve capabilities. Collaborates across a board of architects and technologists wielding the collective knowledge of a team to empower developers and guide them as new capabilities are built. This role develops solution architecture at a portfolio and project level for the Global Quality and Global Product Safety + Regulatory functions. These functions serve as critical pillars to innovation focused product development. Responsible for understanding emerging technology and business trends to drive innovative solutions throughout the portfolio. This role will serve as a core team member for software development and process related IT Innovation throughout GIS GPO by leading hackathons, design thinking events and driving best practices with a team of Regional Innovation Leads across the globe. 

 

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Understand Global Quality (GQ) and Global Product Safety and Regulatory Affairs (GSR) capabilities and transform them into technology roadmaps.
  • Regularly interface with other architects, data scientists, business relationship managers, GQ and GSR Leaders, and enterprise subject matter experts to evaluate portfolio capability needs.
  • Leads the creation of low-level solution design that aligns business requirements to technology platform capabilities that are consistent with enterprise IT frameworks.
  • Serves as a technical and business-savvy resource to development engineers or other key stakeholders on a wide array of solution design issues.
  • Manage vendors throughout project delivery to ensure solutions are integrated, delivered with high quality and follows development standards and principles.
  • Support not only the development of new capabilities but sustaining value resolving technology challenges for existing solutions through ongoing operations.
  • Guides operations support teams both locally and throughout the globe to maintain system stability.
  • Anticipates and prevents problems or roadblocks before they occur.
  • Demonstrated customer focus - evaluates decisions through the eyes of the customer building strong customer relationships.
  • Maintain strong relationships with peers and partners.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends and utilize this knowledge to educate both IT and the business on opportunities to build better target architectures that support and drive business decisions.
  • Communicates effectively through presentations to senior level business and technology leaders to ensure delivery agility and business value are always embedded in solutions.
  • Champion Whirlpools culture of learning by upskilling on new technologies and mentoring less experienced members of the team.
  • Able to facilitate difficult conversations to balance enterprise technology and business strategies while meeting local business requirements across regions.
  • Being proactive to leverage solutions across regions where appropriate.
  • Values diversity and inclusion through daily interactions within a global team across various time zones
  • Travel up to 15% domestically and globally (China, Brazil, India, Europe).

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree and 5+ years of experience in Agile/SCRUM software development projects and programming or, in lieu of a degree, a High School Diploma/GED and 10+ years of experience in Agile/SCRUM software development projects and programming.

 

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master’s in computer science, engineering, business
  • Understanding or experience with the following technologies: Core Java/.NET, Spring Batch, Spring MVC, Struts, JSON, SOAP UI, Jenkins, JavaScript, Design Patterns, Swift, Python, R, ExpressJS, AngularJS, Node.js, SQL Rust, or Go.
  • Ability to move between high-level architectural design and ready to "roll up sleeves" to be personally involved in all phases of a software application delivery project
  • Ability to migrate or transform legacy applications to best-in-class technology cloud solutions.
  • Champions a culture of microservices, through shared, modern RESTful APIs driving the delivery of transactional data products with the ability to build APIs from business intent.
  • Ability to transform traditional software development activities into DevOps
  • Knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks, specifically TOGAF
  • Deep understanding of source control platforms and methods.
  • Experience with Artificial Intelligence and/or Machine Learning technologies.
  • Technical experience in SAP, SAS, Tableau, Cloud SaaS, PaaS, IaaS and Amazon Web Services (AWS) platforms.
  • Conversant with Design Thinking and ready to deploy problem-solving strategies to projects.
