Job Description & Structure


Whirlpool’s Manufacturing Operations Organization is going through a transformation focusing on delivery of our strategy,  via World Class Manufacturing (WCM) Methodology. Through this transformation Whirlpool will be the benchmark for global manufacturing excellence, delivering best in class manufactured products at competitive cost and creating a sustainable competitive advantage for our company. As part of the Manufacturing Operations transformation, an organizational structure realignment is required to support process embedment, standardization, enhanced control, space and flexibility to operate and execute the strategy.  Along with the Manufacturing Operations organizational structure realignment, the Material Control & Logistics Organization is realigning to optimize, better align, and support our business partners.


Objectives of Organizational Structure

The objective of the Multi-Site Lead is to create a structure to drive standardization, process improvements and new technology and systems, along with developing our people by utilizing the WCM Methodology.  In addition, the alignment of a common plant Materials structure with common naming convention, role descriptions, skills and competencies and clarity on career progression opportunities.

  • Realign organization name to Material Control & Logistics

  • Position will report directly to Central Manufacturing Material Control & Logistics Director

  • Located at HQ

  • Implement standardization and central team’s strategy across plants; aligned objectives and standardization  

  • Liaison with Categories, Procurement, Technology, Finance, PFT, People Development, etc.

  • Category and Manufacturing Strategy setting and execution; FMP, Core / Non-Core, LCS, etc.  


Enhancements to Organizational Structure

  • Plant Material Control & Logistics Managers will report to the Multi-Site Leads

  • The Multi-Site Lead has direct responsibility for the leadership and development of the Plant Material Control & Logistics teams

  • Drive WCM Methodology and Logistics & Customer Service Pillar (LCS) at the plant level

  • Ensure inventory management, scorecard alignment and compliance, financial alignment and compliance, etc.

Job Description

  • Responsible for the oversight of the Material Control and Logistics organizations for multiple manufacturing sites.

  • Act as Liaison between Manufacturing, Procurement, Finance, Technology and Demand Planning.

  • Adherence to policies and procedures of Inventory Management (internal and external controls).

  • Lead the manufacturing production schedule with corporate planning and develop optimal operational plans that incorporate manufacturing constraints.

  • Accountable to enforce and manage commercial relationships with suppliers to ensure efficient flow of parts into the operation.

  • Work with manufacturing leadership and cross functional teams to optimize total cost and to maintain inventory targets that support our ability to deliver the promise to our customers.

  • Accountability for the successful implementation of development strategies for multi-site Material Control and Logistics organizations

  • Report to material and manufacturing leadership on production status and identify countermeasures.

  • Implementation of Whirlpool Production System (WPS) / World Class Manufacturing (WCM) Methodology and Application.

  • Serve as a point of contact for cross-functional partners - both internal to Whirlpool and external.

  • Identify and lead continuous improvement efforts through involvement in the strategic materials management planning process and the execution of activities defined in that process.

  • Prioritizes and organize short term and long term goals and activities in accordance with business objectives.

  • Ensure strict adherence to all Whirlpool manufacturing standards/methods.

  • Live the Whirlpool Leadership Model and drive it within your team.

  • Addresses opportunities for improvement relative to Safety, Quality, Cost and Delivery metrics and talent development.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations Management, or similar preferred.

  • 5 to 7 years leadership experience in a supply chain focused or manufacturing environment preferred. Prior materials experience an asset.

  • Strong understanding of World Class Manufacturing (WCM) & Lean methodology and application. Proven track record in driving continuous improvement via lean tools.

  • A broad understanding of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, knowledge of SAP systems preferred.

  • Proven ability to grow individual and organization competency through proactive coaching and mentoring.

  • Proven change agent.

  • Outstanding oral and written communication, interpersonal and facilitation skills.

  • Demonstrated problem solving and conflict resolution skills.

  • Repeated success in a "teaming" environment.

  • Prior experience managing supplier and/or cross functional relationships
