Verification & Validation Engineer - Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)

 

Functional Overview
Currently, we are seeking a full-time Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Verification & Validation (V&V) Engineer to support the electronic controls verification and Validation team at our Benton Harbor, MI headquarters. The position is best suited for someone with a strong engineering background and experience in the EMC testing and improvements area.

As the EMC V&V Engineer, you will be responsible for the development and pre-compliance testing on different range of appliance products from susceptibility and emission perspective. You will have a good understanding of applicable standards used in the industry such as CISPR series. You will help the design teams to investigate EMC issues and deploy best practices that would help the pre-compliance testing go smoothly.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • You are the Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the area of Electromagnetic Interference (EMI)/ Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), Hardware, System Design and Testing. 
  • Testing as per applicable immunity and emission standards such as CISPR series, Langer, EFT (Electrical Fast Transients), Internal Burst, Continuous and Discontinuous disturbances, conducted and radiated immunity /emission testing, Surge, Ringwave, Electrostatic discharge (ESD), Line voltage related specification. 
  • Investigate any EMC issues and build knowledge by documenting the learnings using A3s and EMC design guidelines for compliance and robustness..
  • Understand the hardware and system level design from EMI/EMC perspective, recommend and drive appropriate changes during the design stage. Work with Hardware, Wiring and System integration teams on driving these actions.
  • You understand EMC compliance standards like Federal Communications Commission (FCC)  Part 15, 18, Industry Canada(IC)  Interference Causing Equipment Standards (ICES), Radio Standard Specifications (RSS) standards, CE Testing requirements for Europe Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
  • Develop models for interference coupling mechanisms, shielding integrity, and circuit/cable interface isolation to mitigate and control conducted/radiated emissions and susceptibility stimuli 
  • Understands different emission compliance standards e.g. FCC/IC and expectations from testing perspective.

 

Minimum Requirements       

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in the area of EMC

 
Preferred Requirements

  • MS in Electrical, Electronics or EMC
  • iNARTE certification (International Association of Radio, Telecommunication and Electromagnetic Engineers)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to push through the ideas.
  • Understanding of test methodologies and hands on experience on setting up and conducting EMC testing.
