This role in summary

Whirlpool is seeking qualified candidates for a Senior Manager - Control Systems in Benton Harbor, Michigan for the Control Systems Department, Electronics and Electrical Systems (EES) Organization.

 

Your responsibilities will include 

  • Directly manage the global Electronics Control Systems Organization with teams in Brazil, US, EMEA and India to include 20+ engineers
  • Management responsibilities include People management; career, engagement, project allocation, Budget and resource planning; Project and Risk management for the deliverables of the Control systems Organization.
  • Interface with Leadership and Stakeholders within Electronics and Electrical Systems organization, as well as with cross platforms and Advanced Innovation to understand & drive project needs, requirements, forecast resources and budget for project execution.
  • Responsible for overall management of the Control Systems Organization Assets (SW licenses, Product Development Expenses, Lab infrastructure, Process and Tools in general, etc)
  • Will support the Technical Leaders of the organization on the definition of the Technology Roadmaps and Strategies for Control Systems.
  • Technical Support and Guidance to the engineers in the organization on their day-to-day activities and needs.
  • Drive deployment and adoption of Control System Technical Assets (Tools & processes, models, simulation tools, algorithms, etc..) within Electronics and Electrical Systems Organization as well as with our stakeholders in the platforms.
  • Help on development and growth of the engineers in the organization.
  • Lead the Global Organization around the Model Based Design Transformation.
  • Technology Delivery Leader in the Organization: Champion and key team driver in developing & delivering technology assets: Control algorithms, Model Based Design Tech Pillars (Model Based Controls, Virtual Systems, Rapid Control Systems, Simulation models, etc..), Motor Control Technology, Algorithms and Systems, infrastructure and innovation.
  • 10-20% domestic and international travel in order to support projects and the global organization

 

Minimum requirements

  • Masters Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, or Controls Engineering with a focus on controls systems and or Virtual system design and simulation
  • 10+ years Engineering experience in Control System Development; Motor & Motor Control; Model Based Design; Project Planning & Execution, Electric systems integration, both as individual contributor or as leading a technical organization
  • 5+ years Team leadership experience, leading a multicultural and global organization. Teams of 10+, technical and people managers
  • 5+ years Systems Engineering, working, or driving work around electrical systems integration in the area of Control Systems, Hardware and Software
  • 5+ years’ experience with Project & Budget Planning and Risk management

 

Preferred skills and experiences

  • Strong technical communication and influence to help influence the Global Organization and Leadership around the strategies and projects on Control Systems and Model Based Design.
  • Background in Control Systems; motor/motor control, model-based control systems; StateFlow, Matlab/Simulink, linear and non-linear controllers, advanced controllers and estimators; Model Predictive Control, Kalman Filter, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence
  • Familiar with the different tools and process that are used by the Control Systems Organization, and proficient with at least one of those: Matlab/Simulink, Modelica tools (Dymola, Maplesim, Function Mockup Interface (FMI), C/C++, Embedded C, AutoCode Generation of Model Based Controls, V&V Tools; Polyspace, VectorCast, Rapid Control Prototyping Systems & HIL; ETAS, dSpace, NI Veristand, SpeedGoat
