Functional Overview

 

Whirlpool is currently, seeking a qualified candidate for our Senior Hardware Verification & Validation (V&V) Engineer, role  to support the electronic controls verification and Validation team at our Benton Harbor, MI headquarters. As the Senior Hardware V&V Engineer, you will be responsible for the testing and certifications of products and prototypes and would be tasked with maintaining the lab and associated equipment to keep it in working order. You will also be required to review project designs and define, plan & execute required tests to release the design.

 

Job Responsibilities


 

  • Test electronic controls and other products for different aspects prototype evaluation, engineering development, etc.
  • Plan and execute Environmental, Hardware and Certification testing based on product or control FMEA (Failure Modes Effects and Analysis) and/ or DVP&R (Design Verification Plan and Report) .
  • Aware of Design for Reliability principles and tools
  • Knowledgeable of different failure analysis techniques and able to use this to direct failure analysis.
  • Knowledge of Design and build test fixtures as needed
  • Develop and maintain internal policies and procedures for new and failed product testing.
  • Understand product field failures and improve testing methods including reporting to engineering and management teams
  • Investigate failures to find the root cause and define containment and permanent actions to eliminate the issue
  • Follow and create test plans for evaluating hardware revisions and regression testing
  • Maintain hardware test procedures for each hardware and software model
  • Maintain management reports
  • Experience in planning and executing the tests for different controls based on FMEA, DVP&R and specifications

 

Minimum Requirements       

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering
  • 5+ year(s) of experience in hardware development and testing

 

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience with electronic assembly quality inspection, i.e. IPC-A-610
  • Good understanding of Test to Fail, Design for Reliability, Six Sigma concepts ASQ certifications such as CQE (Certified Quality Engineer), CRE (Certified Reliability Engineer)
  • Experience with oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, Oscilloscopes, Network Analyzers/ Spectrum Analyzers, High Frequency Testing
  • Ability to run, tune and maintain test scripts
  • History with maintaining test equipment and lab:  Environmental chambers, shakers, vibration FFT analyzers, and IR thermal Camera
  • Experience with Reliability and Statistical analysis softwares such as Reliasoft Weibull, ALTA, RGA, JMP, Minitab.
  • Is able to plan and execute the work for a project or a program, and track the progress to deliver project in a timely manner
