Function Overview

Whirlpool is seeking a qualified candidate for the role of Procurement Manager, Commodities at our Benton Harbor location. The position is in the Commodity Management space within Whirlpool's Global Strategic Sourcing organization, and specifically under the Cooling & Gas Systems Global Commodity.

The role reports directly to the Global Compressor Commodity Senior Manager based in Italy.


Job Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for ~$170M annual commodity spend, supporting Whirlpool’s 12 North America assembly and manufacturing plants
  • Develop and manage the business relationship between Whirlpool and its suppliers of specific Cooling Systems components (i.e. Compressors, Compressor Electricals and Vacuum-Insulated Panels)
  • Lead contract negotiations, supplier issue resolution, supplier cost reductions, and the purchase order creation and management processes for the assigned sub-commodities
  • Support the execution of sourcing and supplier strategies for the assigned sub-commodities in North America Region, working closely with other regions to drive global alignment and synergies
  • Coordinate one sub-commodity at global level, including development and execution of global strategy by engaging with and leading (without direct authority) team members located in other regions
  • Key component of cross-functional team responsible for flawless execution of major upcoming product transition in North America Region (i.e. change of refrigerant driven by regulations and affecting complete refrigeration product portfolio)
  • Evaluate suppliers on cost, quality, delivery, and other information to determine viability of suppliers
  • Forecast financials on a monthly basis and identify, develop and execute projects for the assigned sub-commodities
  • Support the definition and execution of the financial Long Range Plan for the assigned sub-commodities in North America Region
  • Support the requirements of various process partners (such as Engineering & Technology, Product Development, Marketing, etc.) in relation to the assigned sub-commodities
  • Drive extraordinary results in meeting critical revenue, cost, quality, delivery, and service objectives
  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction are accomplished in all work streams


Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Business or Engineering
  • 3+ years’ experience in supply chain or procurement


Preferred Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Supply Chain Business or Engineering
  • Ability to quickly build strong rapport and relationships with internal process partners and suppliers
  • Proven negotiation and cost reduction skills
  • Strong analytical and computer related skills
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple key activities
  • Ability to work autonomously, distant from his/her manager
  • Ability to support development and execution of commodity strategies
