Manager, Supplier Diversity


This Role In Summary:

Whirlpool is seeking qualified candidates for a Manager, Supplier Diversity role for our Global Strategic Sourcing (GSS) team at the Benton Harbor, Michigan location. The Manager is responsible for designing, implementing, and leading the Global Diversity Program for Whirlpool along with the Supplier Sustainability program to help achieve desired business outcomes. This position plays a critical role within the larger integrated Responsible Sourcing team at GSS.


Your Responsibilities Will Include:

Supplier Diversity (70% of the workload in short term, eventually 100% of the workload)

  • Globally drives the leadership, planning, organizing, and implementation of the supplier diversity programs which includes governance, roles and organizations (people), process, technology, and data strategies.
  • Designs and executes the strategic vision and design of the company supplier diversity program.
  • Leads the transformation of the supplier diversity program into a world-class program, delivering year over year growth in diverse supplier sourcing
  • Executes and leads regional champions/practitioners to execute against the action plans.
  • Effectively oversees the performance of 3rd party service providers, supplier diversity development organizations, and external data partners, supporting the program
  • Creates and communicates analytical reports and dashboards to monitor supplier utilization trends and performance to established goals and objectives
  • Monitors and analyzes industry trends, benchmark data and emerging practices and recommends best in class methods of working to senior and executive leadership
  • Leads and coordinates Whirlpool’s supplier community outreach and support to diverse vendor councils
  • Manages global communication plans and materials, including presentations, reports, and marketing collateral for the supplier diversity program
  • Ensures alignment with Whirlpool’s global Inclusion and Diversity efforts
  • Ability to travel globally to Whirlpool locations as well as to conferences and sourcing events


Supplier Sustainability (30% workload in short term, eventually 0% of the workload)

  • Drive material compliance with suppliers through Global Material Compliance Portal and manually (where needed)
  • Lead embedment and governance of the Global Material Compliance within the supplier community
  • GSS Project Management Office (PMO) for projects under sustainable materials beyond phase-outs Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Plastics, Substance s of very high concerns (SVHC), Flame Retardants (FR), Recycled Content, FR 
  • Support Material Transparency Full Material Control (FMD) Roll out strategy and execution for high-risk top suppliers (~4-5 suppliers in 2021) through the Global Material Compliance System
  • Regular reporting and analytics of all programs under this pillar, from a regulatory and whirlpool requirements lens, etc)

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5+ years of experience in a global supplier diversity program
  • 3+ years of experience in a leading global supplier material compliance program
  • Experience of full lifecycle Procurement and Sourcing
  • Experience with Project and Program management skills



Preferred Skills and Experiences:

  • Multitask and prioritize different activities
  • Experience with G Suite Tools, particularly Google Sheets
  • Interpersonal skills and the ability to influence and build effective working relationships with diverse internal and external partners across multiple varied regions
  • Relationships within industry recognized Supplier Diversity councils and organizations
  • Experience working with a global team in previous roles
  • Change management experience with the ability to move stakeholders toward a common vision or goal
  • Executive presence with experience and comfort presenting information to executive leaders
  • Presentation Skillsets
