Function Overview

Whirlpool is looking for qualified candidates for the role of Lead Engineer.This role will be located at our site in Benton Harbor, MI.


Job Responsibilities 

  • Design microcontroller based User Interfaces /  HMI (Human Machine Interfaces) for Whirlpool Global product appliances 
  • Architect Wi-Fi / Bluetooth connectivity Technology solutions for Connected appliances
  • Drive Chipset selection process for Next-Gen Technologies and Control boards
  • Define Strategy and Roadmaps as well as Lead development of Liquid Crystal Display (LCD),Thin Films Transfer, (TFT )Displays
  • Develop and validate embedded hardware applications 
  • Select and integrate hardware modules to build embedded hardware applications.
  • Electronic/Electrical Circuit Model/Simulation
  • Printed Circuit Boards (PCB) Layout review and component selection for hardware execution.
  • Prototype assembly, bring up, debugging, and functional verification 
  • Along with engineering & procurement staff, manage all communication with suppliers/manufacturers on defined supply components and evaluate all results effectively.
  • Hands-on experience in prototype bring-up and debugging and functional verification
  • Actively Participate on Technical Design Reviews
  • Design for Electromagnetic Compatibility & Electromagnetic Interference
  • Mixed-signal and embedded board-level design experience incl. 32-bit microcontrollers
  • Experience in working both Global and regional teams
  • Experience with industry standard, Hardware and PCB Layout development and tools 


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering 
  • 5+ years of experience in designing embedded hardware solutions for products
  • 3+ years of experience in Human Machine Interface (HMI) / User interface (UI) designs or connectivity solutions designs



Preferred Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical / Electronic / Computer Science Engineering 
  • Experience with hardware development tool - CADENCE
  • Hardware design background (Experience with Software is a plus)
  • Strategic Thinking, ability to create a strategy and a vision for the Hardware Ecosystem for connected appliances
  • Knowledge about Low Power MCUs, Connectivity Modules, USB, Camera, Audio, Memory, Internet of Things (IOT), Cloud, 
  • Great Electrical Engineering fundamentals, FCC certification, test processes.
  • Effective communication and negotiating skills
  • Proven experience on microcontrollers/processors/ASIC selection and evaluation
  • Desired experience in the following areas:
    • Low Power, High end MCUs and System on Chip Microprocessors
    • Analog and Digital Logic design
    • Signal Integrity analysis
    • Testability and Design of Experiments (DOEs) 
    • Various communication protocols (I2C, SPI, MIPI, CAN etc)
    • LED driving circuits.
    • Project assessment & risk management
    • LCD - TFT displays development with suppliers
  • Experience developing projects in stage-gate process
  • Proven skills in OPEX (6 sigma)  A3 methodology, 
  • Strategic Thinking, ability to create a strategy and a vision for the function 
  • Technical coaching abilities
