Function Overview

We currently have an opening for an EMI / EMC Electrical Engineer for our Benton Harbor, MI Corporate Headquarters.  Join our team as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the area of Electromagnetic Interference/ Compatibility (EMI / EMC), Hardware, System Design, and Testing. You would be responsible for EMC pre-compliance testing and design level recommendations to mitigate EMC issues.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Provides upfront design support and design guidance for EMC and Signal integrity on printed circuit boards for ACU (Appliance Control Unit) / HMI (Human Machine Interface) /Wire harness development teams
  • EMI / EMC test results analysis testing and troubleshooting
  • Review and tailor EMI / EMC requirements to meet specified product performance for all aspects of Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) compliance, including EMI / EMC/ ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) and Surge
  • Develop models for interference coupling mechanisms, shielding integrity, and circuit/cable interface isolation to mitigate and control conducted/radiated emissions and susceptibility stimuli
  • Understands different emission compliance standards e.g. the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Integrated Circuit (IC) expectations from a test perspective
  • Develop guidelines on Electromagnetics Environmental Effects (EEE) and Vulnerability Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (EME) and Vulnerability procedures provide guidance throughout the conceptual design, design development, and integration, production, sustainment process including test capabilities (Unit and System)
  • Understand the system level design from EMI /  EMC perspective, recommend and drive appropriate changes during the design stage
  • Review Schematics and Layout for minimizing EMI/EMC effects and to achieve compliance.
  • Knowledgeable of relevant standards CISPR14, CISPR22, IEC61000-3-2,3-3, -4
  • Conducting the design reviews from EMI/EMC perspective that include but not limited to, FMEA, DVP&R, Wiring Routing, PCB Layout, Schematic, Components selection reviews.
  • Guiding the EMC Lab technicians to run the EMC testing with specific objectives
  • Reviewing the EMC test results and working on design engineers for defining the corrective and preventive actions
  • Investigate the root cause of failures in any of EMC testing
  • Create and update design and test guidelines for EMC area that design engineers can utilize.

 

Minimum Requirements

  • 5+ years of work experience in Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Engineering
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering

 

Preferred Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (MSEE)
  • Experience in the discipline of EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) Engineering
  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
  • Demonstrated technical and professional skills in the job-related area required
  • Strong communication skills and ability to push through the ideas
  • Is a team player, able to work in a cross-functional collaborative environment to meet mutual goals of component EMC Validation
  • Specific knowledge of engineering discipline (e.g. mechanics, physics, metallurgy, manufacturing methods, electronics, software, control systems)
  • The high-level analytical ability where problems are unusual and complex
  • Knowledge of Electronics Hardware, software, and systems
