This Role in Summary

Whirlpool is seeking qualified candidates for an Design & Development Engineer role to work within the cooling and ice water team, supporting the refrigeration engineering group. This role will be located in Benton Harbor, MI.  In this role you will design, develop and execute solutions to meet and exceed the needs of our customers for existing product improvements. This role works closely with Platform Teams, Manufacturing, Service, Procurement and other roles within the Refrigeration Engineering Group while achieving the highest level of quality while driving optimized cost, design and process robustness, waste elimination through the use of Whirlpool Product Development (WPD) tools and methodologies


Your Responsibilities Will Include 


  • Develop, model and test Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) control product solutions
  • Develop NVH control product concepts or modifications using computer aided modeling
  • Develop and define the NVH attribute requirements for new product development
  • Component and Module development in refrigeration considering cooling & ice and water subsystem with system level tradeoffs.
  • Conduct lab experimentation for products and components using thermal & noise chambers, wind tunnels, calorimeters, etc.
  • Analyze simulations related to the refrigeration system, heat transfer and air flow, Ice & water,
  • Develop cost reduction and quality improvement plans and helps in the development of new features and technologies
  • Develop Ice and water, refrigeration and air flow system designs
  • Technical knowledge for ice and water, cooling components and system interactions.
  • Work with a designer on the creation of new components and drawing
  • Create a testing plan for evaluating the new component


Minimum Requirements 


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • 1 year(s) of experience in noise and vibration control engineering 
  • Experience with product testing and analysis (examples include: modal analysis, vibration testing, and/or acoustics testing)


Preferred Preferred Skills and Requirements


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering 
  • Thermal science background 
  • Collaborative working style – able to work across a complex, matrices global organization
  • Detail oriented but also able to see the “big picture”
  • Enjoys challenges - need to be willing to roll up your sleeves and dig in to understand the drivers and identify potential problem solutions
  • Self-disciplined with high levels of motivation
  • Resourcefulness in accomplishing objectives and completing tasks
  • Outstanding organization, communication, and leadership skills
