Codes Engineer, Senior 


Currently, we are seeking qualified candidates for a Codes Engineer, Senior opening to join our Laundry Appliance Technology organization. 


The Basics  (Functional Overview)

Reporting to the United States Verification and Validation (US V&V) Leader for Laundry Products, the Codes Engineer, Senior will routinely work with the Washer and Dryer platform architects, subsystem engineers, and system integrators to understand the project objectives, and to identify and communicate relevant Underwriters Laboratory (UL), American National Standards Institute (ANSI) , DOE Energy Requirements and NOM Codes Requirements, as well as national codes requirements for the Whirlpool Latin America North Region. The Codes Engineer, Senior uses critical thinking and an understanding of Code Requirements to generate Codes Certification Approval plans with the appropriate type and amount of testing.   The successful candidate will also work closely with a talented team of laboratory supervisors , technicians and V&V engineer to ensure that tests are completed accurately and on schedule. Each day offers a broad range of opportunities in a fast paced, team oriented work environment. The successful candidate will be joining a talented team of individuals within our Monterrey Technology Center. 


Job Responsibilities (What you will do/ Your day to day)

This position will oversee Codes Approval Certification plans for the Dryer platform projects in the US.  This person will create and execute Codes Approval Certification plans that align with multiple project budgets and timelines.  They are expected to: 


  • Maintain expert knowledge of the applicable UL, ANSI, NOM and National standards and cascade the code/standard requirements to the responsible engineering teams

  • Maintain knowledge of washer and dryer products and specifications.

  • Lead the activities to obtain UL, ANSI, NOM and National certifications, including the overall plan for obtaining certification and test strategy, for washer and dryer projects

  • Ensure the appropriate certifications are received from the certification agencies in time to support project timelines

  • Maintain knowledge of our compliance reports and make sure that product changes are appropriately communicated as needed to our certifying agencies

  • Represent Whirlpool as the key point of contact for UL and ANSI certification agencies during product assessments, and audits


Background and Experiences (Minimum Requirements)

  • Engineering Degree

  • English skills, demonstrate  independency of the language

  • 3+ years of experience in designing and launching of new products.


 Preferred Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of Washer and Dryer appliance technology

  • Strong project management and time management skills 

  • Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of people

  • Ability to effectively facilitate meetings and discussions

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Experience in codes and standards development (member or participant in standards development organization technical expert panel or committee) 

  • Six Sigma Black Belt or other training providing an understanding of Design of Experiments, Control Charts, Measurement system Evaluations and other statistical process/product improvement methods
