This role in summary

Whirlpool is seeking qualified candidates for a Fabrication Engineer to join our team in Amana, IA. Overall, in this role you will be providing Engineering support to facilitate changes for new projects, tooling & equipment modifications, or maintenance requests to support Bottom Freezer Refrigerator production.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Support daily manufacturing operations (fabrication process and tool and die)
  • Provide Engineering direction and execution to fabrication activities
  • Accountable and responsible for maintaining OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) and OLE (Overall Line Effectiveness) in the assigned areas
  • Troubleshoot and implement solutions to complex machine breakdown and quality issues
  • Research,develop and implement a new manufacturing process for fabrication technology with the plant
  • Develop and execute projects related to new product introduction
  • Develop and execute capital equipment purchase projects to improve, safety, quality, cost, capacity increase and/or risk to business
  • Develop the strategies for implementing advances in new emerging fabrication technologies
  • Provide mentoring to associate,analysts and engineers to develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product, design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment, capabilities assembly methods, and quality control standards
  • Lead AM/PM projects in the assigned areas
  • Driving root cause analysis through the structured diagnosis of equipment failures using FI methodology, ( functional integration)
  • Lead the implementation of World Class Manufacturing initiatives in the assigned areas
  • Updating, reviewing and presenting departmental metrics
  • Assures product and process quality by designing testing methods, tested finished product and process capabilities establishing standards and confirming manufacturing processes parameters
  • Lead cross functional safety cost and quality improvements by collaborating with design engineering, new product introduction, and quality and departments
  • Represent manufacturing in review board  meeting to make sure accuracy and feasibility of design changes 
  • Perform DFMEA ( Design Failure Mode Elements Analysis  and PFMEA , (Process Failure Mode Elements Analysis) for new designs 

Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • 3+ years experience working in a manufacturing environment

Preferred skills and experiences

  • Six Sigma Certification
  • Project management experience 
  • Programing and troubleshoot Fanuc Robots
  • Metal forming tooling including blanking and progressive/transfer tooling 
  • Troubleshooting of highly automated metal fabrication machines
  • Root cause analysis and developing solutions 
  • GD&T,  ( Global Dimensioning and Tolerance) stackup, and statistical process control
  • 3D modeling through Solid Works, Creo and ProE, Kaizen
  • PLC  (Programmable Logic Controntroler)programming
